Aye me . . . :S
So, this morning I have gone through a wide range of emotions. Fear, frustration, anger, (at myself) - stupid friggin idiot - (at myself), sadness, stress. What fun!
Months before coming on this trip I checked to make sure my passport would still be valid. December 2009. I'd be back in Canada by July 2009. No problem! :) . . . only, apparently I'm more ignorant about traveling than I thought. The whole - your passport can't expire within six months of when you enter a country - yeah - I didn't know that.
I found it out on Thurs but still thought - oh ok, it's probably good until the end of December - as long as we make sure we're in the final country we're traveling to before July 1st I'm safe - which is fine - I'm sure we could spend two weeks in Thailand no problem. And I - with the busyness of the weekend - didn't bother double checking until this morning - Monday. Passport expires Dec.08/09 . . . Damn.
And begins the torrent of emotions and stress of my morning. I'll still be able to get into the Phillipines just fine but none of the other countries and I already have a ticket to Vietnam.
So, after waiting an hour for the Canadian embassy to open (and it's only open for 3 hours so I couldn't even go in after almost another hour of waiting to hear from a live person - it's 2 hours away). I found out that if there are NO problems with my application and documents I should be able to get an Emergency temporary passport by next Monday (we fly out Wednesday) that will last me two months and will put me back around $400. Money I definitely don't have. And I need to compile a ton of information about my past 5 years and get my original birth certificate into a Passport office in Canada.
Thanks to the fact that my mother is amazing and the wonders of getting info off of the net I think I have all the info I need . . . . ahhhh!!!
Ok, whoo . . . worst scenario I lose my ticket and upwards of $1000 I don't have and maybe screw up my and Serene's travel plans . . . Not the end of the world. . . eek! Yes - "Charlene, you're stupid." and variations of the same are definitely running through my head right now. So, to wait . . .
P.S. I write these as a WARNING to other travelers. Don't let this happen to you!!!!!!
