Santa Fe cont'd - Nightlife

We went out a couple of times in Bantayan - all very different yet interesting experiences. The first night Reen and I got all dolled up and went to a place, Ginza, that was decidedly dull. Besides us there were maybe 3 or 4 other people there who weren't employees. We stayed for a little over an hour though and had some fun tunes to bust it out to - the employees joining in. This one guy was hilarious. So friendly so flamboyant and an extremely . . . enthusiastic dancer.

The next night while we still had our motorbikes we went back (as we'd been a bit ripped off on the tricycles the night before) and danced it up some more this time with our 15 year old guide (OITP - Only in the Philippines). The night after that was the first evening Ricky exploded in girth - feeling very stressed (after being told it was the worst the doctor had seen and would tae weeks to heal) and very tired I just wanted to be alone so I went out for a walk around the town. Passing a Karaoke hut I got called in and stayed for awhile. one of the guys, Ayan, was pretty forward in his interest of me and came over to chat me up right away. He wanted to take a 'tour' with me on the beach (to which I declined) but let him come with me (after asking one of the girl's if he was a good/safe guy) to go get Serene.

He was a nice guy and kinda cute but unfortunately the got in the way of one of th emost beautiful guys I've ever seen who was also giving me eyes.

And I'm SURE Mr. Beautiful was around my age or older. Ayan, though he told me he was 23, was only 18. it's seriously disturbing. I just seem to be a young boy magnet. . . though it's probably also because too many older guys come off as too forward and cocky - a big turn off.

Anyways, we ended up going to an open air disco with Ayan and his friend JP - a great guy - and getting our groove on for an hour or so. Although, the place was nearly empty. JP was a hilarious dancer - almost as enthusiastic as our Ginza friend and Ayan was just funny/awkward. Poor guy - he was probably cursing his friend for telling me his age - both serene and I made sure we kept our distance so as not to corrupt the children - wink, wink.

Although our first day in Bantayan there were not many tourists because of Independence day the place became more busy on the weekend. That and the fact that it was the last weekend before school started meant there were some intense parties going on. All day Saturday almost every local guy we met between the ages of 13 and 35 asked us if we were going to the Disco or the fiesta that night.

Ricky was plaguing me and I didn't think I should go (although I wanted to) but I ended up having to. It was uncomfortable/sometimes painful to dance with Ricky but I went for it anyways. The places was PACKED with people, but oddly, near the end of every song people cleared the dance floor.

Not understanding and assuming people just didn't want to be standig there in he lull between songs we decided to stand our ground and stay on the floor. The Filippino guys we were with did not understand either as they weren't from the island but after a few breaks told us some of the other people were getting mad at us - that it had something to do with policy. So of course we then gave in and followed the crowd. :(

Soemthing I haen't mentioned yet about the Philippines is the he-shes. They're absolutely everywhere and it's extremely hard to tell whether these anomalies are male or female. i think male, though a lot of them were bras . . . Perhaps they stuff? There was a large group of them at the Fiesta at Marikaban and we danced with them for awhile. Fun . . . people.

Mentioning the dances, Serene and I were virtually queens of the floor. Tons of people wanted to dance with us and we went from group to group giving a show - us playing off of their moves and them off of ours. I think my favourite time was gettign in the middle of a circle with a midget who had incredible moves - when Serene danced with him - whoo! That girl can get down low!

I also finally got to see a dance crew - something I"d been hoping for in Manila. They were okay - but I imagine would have been better if it weren't for the uneven cement floor they were working with.

Onto another note - The country must enforce very few liquor laws - the place had a full spectrum of ages from little children to the elderly and the alcohol was flowing freely (though I actually didn't witness amny teens drinking) haha. But then again the license age is 18 and I saw kids no more than 10 driving motorbikes - oh the wildness of the children! I also saw a girl of about 7 sleeping overnight on a bench outside a restaurant.
